There are multiple ways that you can customize your ride while playing GTA 5. Long gone are the days of Pay 'n' Spray; Los Santos Customs are now the one stop shop for car resprays and, just like original San Andreas, car customization. Keep in mind that the more valuable the Vehicles, the more expensive the upgrades.
Aircraft, Bicycles, Police, Fire Department, Ambulance, Taxi, FIB and Military vehicles are not customizable.
Note that respraying your vehicle still works for evading cops of any star difficulty, but you have to have broken line of sight will all cops before entering Los Santos Customs.
WARNING: At the current time, vehicle saving and garages are an unreliable service, and it is recommended that you wait until Rockstar Games address these issues before spending large sums of money on customizing vehicles.
How to Create Custom License Plates[edit]
You can create a 'vanity plate' or a customizable license plate in the IFruit app. These plates are limited -- you can create a unique plate that nobody else has -- so you'll want to create a plate as soon as possible to reserve one.
Repair[edit]
Before you can modify your vehicle, you must repair it if any damage has been sustained. The price varies on the extent of the damage and the vehicle type. Once you do a full body repair and engine service, vehicle modification can begin. You are unable to make any modification whatsoever to your vehicle until it is repaired.
The window you break while stealing a vehicle counts as 'damage', and must be repaired before customization is available.
Armor[edit]
Once unlocked, there are five armor options available from 20% to a full 100% armor upgrade. This makes your vehicle extremely durable. However, a 100% armor increase does not make your vehicle invulnerable, it only doubles its durability, by adding 100% of the original durability. Keep in mind that this does not bulletproof your windows. Make sure to bulletproof your tires to get the full effect. Armor upgrade prices range from $500 to $25,000 depending on vehicle type. Armor does not increase any base vehicle stats or change the aesthetics of your vehicle.
Options | Price | Online Price | Effect |
---|---|---|---|
None | Default | Default | |
20% | $500 - 1,625 | $4,500 | Increases the vehicles defense by 20% |

60% | $2,000 - 6,500 | $12,000 | Increases the vehicles defense by 60% |
80% | $3,500 - 11,375 | $21,000 | Increases the vehicles defense by 80% |
100% | $5,000 - 25,000 | $30,000 | Doubles the vehicles defense. |
Brakes[edit]
If you're going to tune your vehicle and increase speed and acceleration, some quality brakes are needed to stop the rocket. Notice that the effect of new brakes does not dramatically increase the braking base stat, but it does add a little extra stopping power. The brakes available are Stock, Street, Sport, and Race Brakes. The prices range from $1,000 to $17,500 depending on the vehicle type.

Suspension[edit]
Suspension does not affect any of the base vehicle stats, but it does change the handling of your vehicle by giving it a lower center of gravity, improving its cornering ability. There are four suspension options available from $500 to $2200. These are the options from lowest to highest: Lowered, Street, Sport, and Competition Suspension. The more expensive the Suspension, the lower your vehicle sits relative to the ground.

Aesthetic Upgrades[edit]
Aesthetic Upgrades include any Color, Hood, Front and Back Bumper, Roof, Spoiler, Tire Smoke, Tire Color, Tire, Rim, Exhaust, Window and Side upgrades. Saddle Bag, Fuel Tank and Frame customizations are also available for motorcycles
These upgrades mean nothing towards your vehicle's performance whilst driving, and instead are there to change the way your vehicle looks into something that you like.
- Note - The exception to this is Bulletproof Tires.
How to get free parts[edit]
There is a Los Santos customs on Route 68 just below the Grand Senora Desert. You have to purchase this with Franklin. You will get an income of $1,600 but all upgrades will be free from that location only for Franklin.

The GTA Online update Cunning Stunts takes over the skies of San Andreas with implausible tracks to test the limits of your racing abilities. Ramps, loops, tubes, and more wrap around iconic Los Santos landmarks and through Blaine County canyons to provide the ultimate thrillride. Whether you're a seasoned racer or a fresh in the driving seat, we have a set of tips to help you take that coveted checkered flag.
GTA Online patch notes | How to play GTA Online | How to make money fast in GTA Online | How to level up fast in GTA Online | GTA Online fastest cars | GTA Online best weapons | GTA Online Shark Card
Time to race
To get started, head to any of the pink Stunt Series markers where you'll have the option to either join the lobby for the next race immediately or 'go on call' to be summoned when the race is about to start. You can also highlight any of the Stunt Series markers on the map and select 'Start Job' to jump into the lobby for the next event, and either of these routes should guarantee you a full grid of opponents to race.
If you'd prefer to choose the specific race yourself, then go through the menus Online > Jobs > Play Job > Rockstar Created > Stunt Races and select your event, though you're much more likely to end up in an empty lobby this way.
Get a boost
The boost start mechanic from standard GTA Online races still applies to Cunning Stunts, but with lots of competitors fighting for space on narrow raised tracks it's more important than ever to get a head start. We were able to consistently receive a boost by hitting accelerate just as the starting horn sounds, so practice getting the timing right and you'll always have the best start.
Pick your path
A number of the races split into multiple paths, so select your route then clock the colour of the checkpoints to be sure you're following the right ones. For tracks such as Duel where at points you go head-on with other racers over jumps and crossroads, keep an eye on the minimap as you approach these intersections to try and avoid a time-sapping impact.
Wall ride
When heading through tubes, riding up the walls can help you maintain speed while going around bends, so you don't have to force yourself to stay on the level - just try not to go too high or you may overshoot and flip your vehicle. Riding down the wall can give you a little boost of acceleration and speed, so time this with exiting the tube for an advantage.
Green means go
The green pads on track give you a speed boost, so it goes without saying that you should aim for as many of these as possible. Straddling two at once won't give you any extra oomph, though some tracks have an alternating pattern of green pads which you can drive down the middle of to get the benefit of both sides. Avoid the red pads where possible as these slow you down, though don't swerve them at the cost of going off the track!
Look ahead
Obstacles that feature in Stunt Series races include spinning barriers and rotors, or actual wind turbines in the case of one track, and colliding with them will completely kill you speed allowing you opponents to dash past. Keep an eye on the track ahead to spot these obstacles as you approach, so you can track their movement and change course accordingly to avoid them.
Ring the alarm
At certain areas of each race you'll hear a klaxon alarm sounding, but don't just ignore this as a background effect as they often warn of a dangerous obstacle or jump ahead. Stay focused if you hear a siren and be ready to react during the following section of track.
Loop the loop
Driving through loops can be disorientating, especially if you're not using the first-person camera view, and if you try to correct your steering too much you risk swerving completely out of the side. Make sure you're aiming straight down the track on your approach to a loop, then don't touch the steering as you barrel around and you'll emerge unscathed on the other side.
Ramp it up
None of the races we've entered so far have required taking off ramps at an angle, and doing this will almost always result in falling off the track. Aim to hit ramps as straight as possible, and watch out for opponents ramming you off course - or give them a last second nudge so they don't have time to correct.
Lights, camera, action!
Another new feature in Stunt Series races is the Stunt Cam, which is triggered automatically on certain big jumps. This may look cool, but it can sometimes be difficult to see where you're landing if it zooms out too far, so if you can't spot where you're going to touch down then hit the d-pad to switch back to your normal camera.
Don't fear the respawn
As almost all sections of these races are suspended high in the air, once you drop off a track there's almost always no route to get back on it again. Unless you happen to be by a section at ground level, hold down that respawn button the second you start helplessly tumbling away from the course - don't even wait until you land. It can be frustrating, but at least this is the quickest way possible back on track to start chasing down your rivals again.

Recently I was watching a Minecraft stream and it looked like horses with armor where slower than the ones without armor. Is this a game mechanic or are some horses just faster than the others?

In minecraft armour does not affect the player or a mob's speed, the diffrence in speed is because of the random NBT tag the horse has for the speed.

I have played many hours of Minecraft and I have never noticed my horse go slower. So if it does, it is so minuscule that the armor would be worth it.
Also Google your question; there are several videos testing this, including a Mythbusting episode by Xisumavoid:

What upgrades actually affect car performance? I can see changes of stats when applying engine, brakes, turbo, transmission, etc. But, there are some upgrades that are not really clear such as wings, hood, skirt or tire customization.
Do they change performance at all? Will it be able to stick to the road more with better tire? Will it be able to have faster RPMs with a better cooling system?

According to the IGN Wiki, the following upgrades have an effect on the car's performance:
- Armour (+20-100% defence)
- Brakes (increase breaking)
- Engine (increases acceleration)
- Transmission (increases acceleration)
- Turbo (greatly increases acceleration)
The following have no effect on the car's performance:
- Bumper
- Chassis
- Exhaust
- Fender
- Grille
- Hood
- Horn
- Lights
- Plate
- Roll Cage
- Roof
- Side Step
- Skirts
- Spoiler
- Suspension
- Tailgate
- Wheels
- Window

- Explosives
- Tracker GPS Tracker in your car

After doing some testing, I have noticed a difference between off-road tires and high-end tires, both on the street and off-road. I can tell a difference in cornering (as well as traction over bumpy terrain) when I alter the car's suspension.
Therefore I'm quite sure that it is wrong to say that wheels or suspension have no effect on car performance.
However, I don't know to what extent the other changes, if any, have upon car performance.

I can confirm which upgrades actually affect your car, as for which ones don't, I'll tell you what I always tell everyone, if it makes you feel like you're going faster then maybe it is, but ultimately the best testing is the testing you do yourself and you should take a lot of rumours with a pinch of salt.
Armour is essential in a race because avoiding damage keeps your car fast and competitive throughout the length of the race.
Brakes are important for extra stopping power unless you are driving something with brakes that lock up a lot Ie; Brawler or Slamvan, in these cases consider using the 1st brake upgrade instead of the maximum upgrade as it makes it easier to feather the brake pedal (so to speak) and maintain a decent amount of traction under braking.
Engine, Transmission & Turbo upgrades not only increase the acceleration of your vehicle but also the vehicle's ability to reach it's maximum speed, never trust the in game stats because they are deceptive and don't tell the whole story.
Spoilers, yes they do add a decent amount of traction to your car, making cornering smoother and helping to battle snap oversteer, but more than that, increasing the traction stat helps apply braking force to the road under you and the same with acceleration forces, try it for yourself.
Suspension upgrades are harder to explain, it is up to you to determine which cars need suspension upgrades and which don't, if you are a 'curb booster' (I'll explain that one later) then stock suspension will probably benefit you more than a lowered car possibly could, but cars that tend to roll over in some corners might be better off with a lower centre of gravity so consider buying an upgrade.
Wheels, as a general rule a tyre with a chunkier sidewall (Offroad) will absorb bumps and curbs better than a smaller profile sidewall (High end) this is also useful for 'curb boosting' and is why you might encounter many of the racing crews using off roads as their main hot lapping tyre choice, and don't forget bulletproofs, they don't just deflect bullets, they also can't be punctured from burnouts.
Curb Boosting is an exploit within the game whereby you can mount and dismount curbs during a race for a slight boost in your engine revs and ultimately making you move faster in a straight line vs people who aren't using the curbs, this works differently depending on your car choice, for example the Zentorno will gain a larger boost from curbs than the Osiris. Curb boosting can be useful but also a problem for other racers on the track, weaving back and forth trying to grab curbs can cause you to take out other racers and knock down a lot of poles and debris in the middle of the race track. I would suggest avoiding over use of Curb boosting but instead try to use it mainly for 1 player hot lapping scenarios where you are trying to set a world record lap for example.
That concludes my life story, hope this helps some people

Well the graphs in game show bo effect but if you log in ifruit app, i actually have two identical cars for different characters at different progressions. IE have more armor and tires and whatnot. It shows my handling inproved and also my weight increased im guessing for my armor and my suspension. So i'm guessing there might be something to it
BrandonBrandon
I found that when you change your wheels (the rim) to a non-stock one, this do affect the performance, so do the exhaust. Although the stat in Los Santos Customs doesn't show, it (the stats) shows in the iFruit App, which you can download it with your real physical world smartphone.

As I recall with the other updates the game did have affect with how much quicker your car goes with certain amount of armor. Because I raced someone with the same t20 and I had 60% armor and he had 100% armor but I was a lot quicker then him, after the next update or latest update, they changed it now, armor doesn't have any affect no matter how much armor you put on or not. I remember very well and I believed I took a video of it too, but I'm not sure I uploaded it yet. If someone can try out the other patches of this game you'll see they changed it.

- Roof plates lower your centre of gravity for better handling.
- Spoilers increase downforce. Try using a super car with one thenwithout - the spoiler version will have better traction, specially at high speeds and be faster.
- Suspension definitely affects handling. The only thing I don't know is whether custom hoods and grilles affect performance. In game they affect engine cooling according to description but I've never been worried about my virtual car overheating.
Does anyone know if it has any actual effect on performance? You must have done more research than type and post please
